Biosketch :

Dr Shobhit Bartarya is working at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital as a Full Time Anaesthesiologist since November 2015 with an experience of more than 28 years in the field. After completing his medical schooling from Seth GS Medical College he qualified all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Examination, followed by a year of Residency in General Surgery, from Temple University Health System (Episcopal Hospital), Philadelphia. This was followed by post graduate training in Anaesthesiology at NYU Medical Centre (Tisch Hospital) and Bellevue Hospitals of the New York University School of Medicine. Thereafter he worked for the Department of Anaesthesiology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, where he also obtained DNB in Anaesthesiology. He has worked as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Jaslok Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital for over five years.

He was ACLS certified as early as 1999. In the years 2003-04 he was involved in the conduct of the very first ACLS like courses for Jaslok postgraduate students. In 2003 he took the initiative to change the system of Anaesthesia Charting at Jaslok and introduced airway management checklists at select locations outside the operating room. In the following years he also contributed towards the introduction of a discharge criterion and screen separation of patients in the recovery room.   

He was trained in the use of Fiberoptic Bronchoscope for airway management in the year 2000, at Bellevue Hospital. He has used it and trained others in its use since. In 2009 he conducted a workshop on ‘Fiberoptic Airway Management’ in an ISA Conference. He has over nine years experience in use of ultrasound for central venous cannulation, and for upper and lower extremity blocks.

He has a keen interest in Haemodynamic Monitoring and is interested in providing anaesthesia for high risk surgeries. In 2009-10 he was involved in a global study – ‘Goal Directed Intraoperative Fluid Therapy During High Risk Abdominal Surgery’. This study used a minimally invasive stroke volume monitor based on pulse contour analysis. He has taken lectures on topics like ‘Intra Aortic Balloon Pump’ and ‘Hemodynamic Fluid Management’. He has had the opportunity to administer anaesthesia for some rare cases like - a patient with Left Ventricular Assist Device for non-cardiac surgery, anaesthesia for one of the youngest patients ever for Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt and anaesthesia for MR guided ultrasonic prostate ablation.

He has been an active member of the Liver Transplant Team at Jaslok Hospital for many years, where he was involved in the perioperative as well as outpatient management of patients. He has extensive experience of conducting anaesthesia for Renal Transplants, Cardiothoracic Surgeries, Hepatobiliary Surgeries, Oncosurgeries, Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery, Functional Neurosurgery, Awake Craniotomies, Orthopaedic Surgeries and Urosurgeries. He has the unique exposure of setting up a facility and providing anaesthesia for MR guided procedures. His motto is promoting asepsis in all aspects of patient care.
