Patient Safety Awareness Week takes place annually in March and this year 2024, we celebrated from March 11th to 15th at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital.
Patient Safety Awareness Week is an event to encourage education on patient safety in the hospital among all the stakeholders.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 2.6 million deaths are due to unsafe care in hospitals in developed and developing countries.
Patient safety is of a paramount importance at our hospital. At our hospital we have deployed Six Patient Safety Champions based on the six international patient safety goals.
Through Patient Safety Awareness Week, the hospital promotes important events that will lead to improved healthcare safety for caregivers, patients, and the systems in the hospital. The event started with pledging for the patient safety from the top management, doctors and all the stakeholders with their pledge written on the pledge board. Important discussions through events like debate, quiz, elocution, and role play theatre takes place thus encouraging importance of patient safety in the hospital. We also had an exhibition on patient safety with various message creating awareness through the monuments, posters created by the hospital staff.
This year we had a unique concept of “Safety Dance” that was choreographed and performed by the mix of around 16 hospital employees from various departments to create awareness giving crucial message on the importance of the International Patient Safety Goals to keep the patient safe in the hospital.
The active participation from the all the departments for the events creates an awareness on the level of understanding from each individual health care provider on their role in the patient safety, be it doctor, nurse, support staff etc.
This awareness week leads to promote more education on patient safety to have uniform practices to be followed in the hospital to keep the patient safe and do no harm, thus having a robust patient safety culture at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital.
