Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a process in which washed sperm are placed directly into the uterus with the help of a thin catheter. IUI is an OPD (outpatient department) procedure in which neither anesthesia nor hospitalization is required. Ovulation is confirmed by ultrasound, and once it is confirmed, the partner is asked to collect the semen in a sterile container. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to process the semen sample. A thin tube called an IUI catheter is introduced into the uterus, and the processed semen sample is slowly released into the uterus. Luteal phase support is given, and pregnancy is confirmed fifteen days later by a simple blood test. This procedure is performed at our fertility clinic.
IVF stands for in vitro fertilization. It refers to the process in which a woman’s eggs are collected and later fertilized outside her womb in the laboratory. Hysteroscopic metroplasty was done to correct the endometrial cavity. In the next cycle, estradiol valerate tablets were started for embryo transfer. In spite of successive increases in the dose of estradiol valerate, her lining did not grow beyond 7.5 mm, so Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) was inserted into the uterine cavity.
The embryo transfer was done 3 days after the PRP, and the patient had a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
