Nerve & Muscle related disorders are:-
There are a variety of nerve and muscle disorders. Some of the commonly encountered ones are:
- Nerve disease or Neuropathy
- Neuromuscular junction disorders:Myasthenia Gravis, Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome.
- Muscle disease or myopathy
- Asymtomatic hyperCkemia (elevated muscle enzyme-CPK), muscle pain.
- Radiculopathy or nerve root disorders.
- Motor neuron disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Cranial mono or polyneuropathies such as facial palsy (Bell's Palsy), trigeminal neuralgia.
- Autonomic neuropathy.
Facilities/Service Offer
The clinic is located in the OPD complex on the 7th floor. OPD days & Timing are Mon, Wed & Fri 10am to 01pm.
What do we offer in Nerve & Muscle clinic?
Nerve & Muscle Clinic
A comprehensive evaluation and treatment of challenging neuromuscular disease by our Neuromuscular Specialist, Dr Megha Damne who is trained in Clevelend Clinic, USA.
NCS/EMG Test
We have a new set up at our hospital with latest EMG machine for nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG). Detailed nerve conduction study and electromyography (NCS/EMG) is done as per the protocols in the United States.
Additional testing as required
- Referral for MRI BRAIN, SPINE, MUSCLES AND NERVES
- Blood Tests
- Limber puncture
- Muscle and nerve biopsy
ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic
Multidisciplinary Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) clinic will provide a multidisciplinary team approach to patients with ALS. This includes consultation with a physiotherapist, a speech therapist and a dietician along with the neurologist, all together in the same clinic.
Neuropathy
A disease of the nerves is called neuropathy. Single or multiple nerves may be affected.
Cervical & Lumbosacral Spondylosis
These are degenerative disc or spine disease that result in pain in the neck or lower back
Neuromuscular Junction Disorders
Neuromuscular junction (NMJ) disorders are disorders that result due to abnormal signal transmission across the nerve and muscle junction. Myasthenia gravis is the commonest NMJ disorder. Myasthenia gravis is a disease characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue.
Myopathy
Myopathy is a disease of the muscles.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
What is ALS?
ALS is a type of neurodegenerative motor neuron disease leading to muscle paralysis. As the disease progresses, it affects the muscles of breathing, necessitating the use of non-invasive ventilation such as a BIPAP machine or a ventilator.
Who can get ALS?
ALS affects adults 40-60 years of age. About 10 % of the cases are inherited or have a genetic cause.
