I CAN SEE TWO LINES ON THE HOME PREGNANCY TEST!!!
…After trying to conceive for 3 years….with and without
medication…I am finally Pregnant today! And Dr. Kedar Ganla has a
significant role in helping my husband and me start our family
with the help of his medication, incredible experience and
absolute sincere supervision!
Being a PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) my periods were
irregular - the major obstacle in planning a cycle. I had informed
my In-laws and my husband-to-be well before we got married about
my irregular periods. Simply because they would understand later
on if I took time to conceive, and believe me that helped a lot!
My in-laws were extremely supportive and encouraging. My husband
was my or rather is my greatest strength since I met him day 1… I
am very fortunate to have a thoughtful family like this one.
I had always thought I would go to a female gynecologist, but
knowing the rapid and miraculous developments of science, I was
very much open to the other option also. And that attitude helped
me a lot. Dr Kedar, made me very comfortable right from our first
meeting, thru the various scans and internal sonographies that
were required. Being a PCOD water retention is a problem that goes
hand in hand with irregular periods. So we are often asked to
reduce our weight. I was 75 before the procedure and managed to
loose 10 kgs with a balanced diet and a good exercise regime. So I
came down to 65 on the day of my procedure and that also helped a
lot! He also wanted to have a word with my husband and made us
understand the entire IUI procedure. Dr. Kedar answered our each
and every query patiently as we wanted to know about the procedure
in detail. This really helped.
Since it was my first IUI procedure, I was told that people take
as many as 6-7 procedures before thinking of higher treatments
like IVF or the test-tube baby. So both my husband and me were
well prepared for the results. As IUI is considered as just
assistance to conceive, people prefer this to an IVF in the
initial stages.
We had very less time on hand, as I was in Mumbai just for a month
when we wanted to give a chance to IUI. Age was on our side, (me
27, him 31) plus my husband had a good semen count The sperm
washing takes about 2 hours and the entire IUI procedure is just a
matter of couple of minutes. It is a non-surgical procedure with
no or little pain. I am using the word “pain” because every female
is different and hence everyone can experience a different
feeling. Although I did not go thru much pain, the feeling was
that of anxiety and concern as to what was going to happen would
either change my life for good! or the fear of not getting thru
this time.
I will elaborate a little about how the entire cycle went through.
I got my period on the 11th of the month. The injections and scans
started from the 8th day, i.e. 18th. Since the ovulation day is
timed, there are several injections involved which have to be
taken everyday from our 4th day of cycle till the day of rupture.
This is to ensure that the follicle that grows is of a good
quality and is prepared to sustain the union if “it happens”. So
there are repeated scans (3 times a week or more) to check the
size of the follicle. This helps in determining the exact day of
ovulation, thus increasing the chances.
Initially the injections were given by Dr Kedar in the presence of
a female nurse all the time, as they are to be taken on our thigh
(Subcutaneous). So at no point in time was I conscious or
apprehensive about what was happening with me. Later on, when the
injections were to be taken daily, Dr Kedar even taught me how to
inject myself! And since that day I call myself a Dr too!!! He was
very patient and accommodating with me which boosted my morale all
the time.
And the ovulation day was predicted to be on 26th the 16th day of
my cycle. The procedure was done on 26th and I came to know after
a month that I was pregnant and that just one procedure of IUI had
done the miracle for me!
Some points to consider if you are planning a family by personal
experiences…
1. Consider taking a prenatal supplement of Folic acid, this will
help prepare your system to make a healthy place for your baby.
2. If you are on the heavier side, try reducing your weight, this
will specially help if you have polycystic ovaries.
3. Make a healthy balanced diet a way of life and not a temporary
change.
4. When you conceive, there will be many physical and emotional
changes due to the pregnancy hormones, so try and engage yourself
in Yoga or Pregnancy related sports which will calm you down and
help you through out the glorious nine months.
5. Be proud of your growing tummy and feel good about yourself and
leave the worries far behind to be never found again!
6. Love your partner and make him understand what you are going
through, because he is always going to stand besides you as your
strength!
7. And lastly don’t forget you will be pregnant only for a while,
so just live these nine months to your fullest, so be happy and
enjoy life to your fullest!
However, one must never get disappointed and never ever hesitate
to try all the possible options that science has evolved for us.
Be it IUI or IVF, we should try our level best and have faith in
our Doctors and I am sure one day all the deprived ones will
surely be blessed by such treatments.
The Doctors who are involved in such procedures are innocent to
the fact that they change of lives forever…for good! And we owe
them big time and can never forget their involvement in our
contentment.
I would like to end this note on this cheering thought that Take
Your Time! No matter how long you take to conceive, have patience
and try all possible treatments suggested by your Doctor. Very
soon you will also be welcoming a new life in your family!
From…One of the successful patients of Dr Kedar Ganla…
